Angela Burgess

Angela Ruth Perkins Burgess arrived on Earth on Sept. 29, 1968, in Sulphur. She departed Earth on Monday, June 17, 2024, in New Orleans. Angie loved kids. She enjoyed decorating, cooking, taking pictures, junking and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia. Angie served as treasurer of DeRidder Riding Club, and she was janitor of Hargrove Bible Baptist Church. She also worked for Walmart for 30 years. She was a Christian who attended Hargrove Bible Baptist Church. She was a friend to many and was the favorite niece of Harry Methvin. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Ellory “Butch” Burgess Jr.; daughter, Kaitlyn “Katie” Latisha Burgess and Cody Goode; brothers, Vance Perkins and wife Ginny, Derrick “DD” Perkins, and Jason “Festus” Perkins; father-in-law, Ellory Burgess Sr. and wife Gertie; brother-in-law, John Burgess and wife Missy; sisters-in-law, Mellissa “Missy” Whittington and husband Bud, and Sharon “Peanut” Burgess; two rays of sunshine, Heath and Kendalyn Furr; five nieces; seven nephews; 14 great nieces; seven great nephews; and one great-great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Bonnie Methvin Perkins; mother-in-law, Sharon “Sissy” Slaydon Burgess; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Etta Hoosier Perkins; and maternal grandparents, Buster and Tish McConathy Methvin.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 9 p.m., Friday, June 21, with the visitation to continue from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 22, at First United Pentecostal Church, 230 Smith St., DeQuincy. She will be laid to rest at Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
