Herman Gray

Herman Wayne Gray of Longville, was born Aug. 13, 1944, and peacefully departed this life on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the age of 79.

Wayne, as he was known by his family and friends, was born in Oberlin, to Hermon and Sweilla Young Gray. He was a dedicated employee of Turner Industries in the Westlake area for 30 years and retired there to enjoy hunting and camping at the deer lease, collecting specialized firearms, watching his favorite westerns and most importantly visiting with family, especially his granddaughter and great-grandson.

Left behind to cherish many wonderful memories are his wife, Norma Geraldine Gray; daughter, Lisa Gray Benoit; son, Herman Wayne Gray Jr.; granddaughter Mattison Benoit and fiance David Goff; and the apple of his eye, great grandson, Hezekiah Goff. Wayne loved his sisters and brothers, and he was loved in return. Remaining are Mary Holland and husband Jerry, Jean Fletcher and husband Tommy, Paula Lessard and husband Myron, John “JS” Gray and wife Nelwyn and Leonard Gray and wife Tina. He was blessed with a multitude of nieces and nephews and loved them every one.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Jerry Wayne and Greg Holland.

The family received friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 22, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
