Jerry Mitchell Nelson, 75, a resident of DeQuincy passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018.

She is survived by her daughter, Alisa Upchurch of DeQuincy; grandson, Jeremy Scott Chambers of DeRidder; two great-grandchildren, Zach and Jarett; one brother, Boyd Mitchell and wife, Peggy of Ragley; and two sisters, Linda Sonnier of Sulphur and Gloria Pharris and husband William of DeQuincy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Nelson; parents, Boyd Mitchell and Ethel Van Winkle Mitchell; and sisters, Billie Stampley and Ethelyn Dunham.

There was a graveside service Thursday, Mar. 1, beginning at 2 p.m. at Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.

Ann Louise Boyd, 75, of DeQuincy passed away on Thursday, Mar. 1, 2018 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. She was born on Jan. 28, 1943 in Houston, Texas. She was the office manager at Water District #7 for 25 plus years. She always had a smile on her face and was always eager to help in any way she could. She enjoyed bowling in her early years and loved to fish.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, John L. Boyd, Sr.; two sons, Larry Bitner of Cherokee, Kansas, John L. Boyd, Jr. and wife Billijo of Lake Charles; two daughters, Ann Marie Morgan and husband Nathan of Cleveland, Ga., Tammy Guidry of DeQuincy; one sister, Carlene L. Durbin and husband Dolan of Stafford, Texas; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, with one on the way; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Lucille Windt.

Services were held at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church in DeQuincy on Monday, Mar. 5, 2018 with Father Eddie Richard and Father Edward Brunnert officiating. Visitation was held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home on Sunday, Mar. 4, from 5-9 p.m. with a Rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation resumed at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m. until the procession to the church. Burial followed at Rigmaiden Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Services were entrusted to Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.

Shirley Lorraine Miller Dunham, 97, died Friday, Mar. 2, 2018. She was born in Grand Chenier. She lived in Grand Chenier until she married. Shortly after marriage they lived in Beaumont, Thibodaux, and Port Sulphur. She then moved to DeQuincy. She helped her husband with his dry cleaning business. From DeQuincy, the family moved to Shreveport, and then New Orleans. After her husband retired from the Army-National Guard, they returned to Grand Chenier, where they lived for over 20 years before moving to Plano, Texas.
She is survived by her four children, Jo Raye (Bob) Masengill, Fred “Sonny” (Polly) Dunham, Nell (Bob) Bartels, and Peggy (Ronnie) Prevost; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Dunham; parents, Raphiel and Georgia Nell (McCall) Miller; siblings; and great-grandson, Stephen Rogers.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be given to Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home or a charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 7, at Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Chapel. Rev. Kevin Smith will officiate. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday until time of service. Burial will follow in the Royer Cemetery, Sulphur.

Funeral service for Ward Woodrow Nielsen was held Tuesday, Mar. 6, at Rush Funeral Home in Kinder with Rev. Dan Husak officiating. Interment followed in Liberty Cemetery in Elton.

Mr. Nielsen, 79, of Kinder, died on Saturday, Mar. 3, 2018 at his residence.

He was a graduate of Elton High School and Louisiana State University. He was a retired Millwright from Olin Biolab. He also worked offshore for Chevron and farmed in his early years.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Courville Nielsen; three sons, Alan Nielsen and wife Lorrie of Paoli, Ind., Gary Nielsen of Liberty, Texas, and Spencer Nielsen and wife Monda of Ragley; two daughters, Debra Chambers and husband Frank of Kinder, and Sandra Voglewede and husband Jim of Decatur, Ind.; four stepsons, Greg Tyler of Lafayette, Steve Tyler and wife Michele of Kinder, J. J. Tyler and wife Tracy of Denham Springs, and Kevin Tyler and wife Kim of Kinder; one brother, Howard Nielsen of Kinder; one sister, Katherine Evans of LaPlace; 15 grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; eight step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Annie Nielsen; his first wife, Patricia Nielsen; and two brothers.
