Betty Lou Anderson Brownell, 72, a resident Ragley died on Sunday, Apr. 9, 2017.

Ms. Brownell was a long-time educator with Louisiana and Texas school systems.

She is survived by her two daughters, Natalie Voorhies and husband Michael of Ragley, and Monique Penny and husband Gerald of DeQuincy; sisters, Brenda Rau of Lake Charles, and Shirley Smith of Orangefield, Texas; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, Don Anderson and Jewel Fisher Anderson; one brother; one sister, Margie Collins; and granddaughter, Emilie Anne McDaniel.

In accordance with her wishes she will be cremated and no services will be held.

Johnny Fontenot Jr., 71, died Sunday April 9, 2017, at a New Orleans care center.

Born in Lake Charles, he was a long time resident of Lake Charles. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1966-1969. He was a self-employed contractor.

He is survived by one son, Wayde Fontenot and wife Rosie of Longville; one daughter, Julie Fontenot of Panama City Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alzina Reeves Fontenot

A memorial service was held on Apr. 14, at Johnson Funeral Home. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.

Eric Bernard Slocum, 50, died at his home on Monday, Apr. 10, 2017.

He was born in Lake Charles.

He graduated in 1985 from Barbe High School and then attended McNeese and Sowela Technical Institute.

Survivors include his mother, Sandra Bernard of DeQuincy; sisters, Charlotte Landry and Karen Hutto, both of DeQuincy; brothers, Scott Bernard of Lake Charles, and Daniel Bernard of DeQuincy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Bernard.

His private burial at Consolata Cemetery has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.

Deborah Ann Drounett, 59, died on Monday, Apr. 10, 2017.

Survivors include her husband, Whitney Drounett Sr. of Sulphur; a daughter, Christina Blanchard and husband Chad of Moss Bluff; a son, Whitney Drounett Jr. and wife Ashley of Ragley; parents, Dorothy and Leamul Willis of Moss Bluff; five grandchildren; a sister, Gail Graham of Moss Bluff; and two brothers, Robert Willis of Oklahoma, and Steve Willis of Moss Bluff.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Apr. 17, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Rev. Bino Francis, M.S. officiated. Burial followed in the Hackberry Community Cemetery.

Logan Thomas Guidry, 19, of Huntersville, N. C., died Mon day, Apr. 10, 2017.

He was currently a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

He is survived by his parents, James and Kristine Esper Guidry; sister, Kaitlyn Guidry; brother, Ryan Guidry; maternal grandparents, Thomas and Susan Esper of Concord, N. C.; paternal grandmother, Lucille Guidry of Ragley; and maternal great-grandmother, Evelyn Englander of Cleveland, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Clifford Guidry.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, Apr. 18, at the chapel of the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, N. C. with Revs. Jack and Jonathan Homesley officiating. Burial followed at Northlake Memorial Gardens.

Edwena Marie Manuel Ash, 69, of Ragley died Tuesday, April 11, 2017 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Ash was a native of Eunice and lived most of her life in the Lake Charles area. She was a graduate of St. Charles Academy and McNeese State University where she obtained a Bachelor degree in Education. She worked as a substitute teacher at South Beauregard Elementary and Moss Bluff Middle School. She was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church where she taught CCD and led the rosary at 4:30 Mass every Saturday. She also taught CCD at St. Pius Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Layne Ash of Ragley; daughter, Rebecca Cart and husband Greg of Lake Charles; son, Matthew Ash and wife Aimee of Sulphur; one granddaughter; and one sister, Sandra McGrath of Lake Charles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Geraldine Manuel.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, Apr. 17, at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Father John Huckaby officiated. Interment followed in Consolata Cemetery.

Viola Prescott, 77, of DeQuincy died Wednesday, Apr. 12, 2017 at her home.

She was a native of Vinton and a long time resident of DeQuincy. She was a member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sister Waldean Williams; son Mack E. Prescott; daughters Victoria A. Jackson, Hazel L. Prescott, Sandra Prescott-Calhoun, Swanda K. G. Patrick, Keva M.Hebert; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her lifelong companion, George D. Bushnell; parents, Gertrude Keys and Homer Daily; one sister; one son Ervin M. Prescott; one daughter Julie A. Bushnell; and two grandsons Jonathan L. Jackson and Cory L. Prescott.

A celebration service will be held on Saturday, Apr. 22 at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in DeQuincy. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 12 p.m.

Susan Kay Marcantel, 60, a resident of Ragley passed away on Wednesday, Apr. 12, 2017.

Susan was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for her family. They loved her homemade fudge, rolls, beef stroganoff along many other dishes she enjoyed cooking for her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Douglas Marcantel, children, Chris Keaton and wife, Lisa of DeQuincy, Nicki Brister and husband, Michael of Merryville, Daniel Keaton and wife, Amanda of Mauriceville, Texas, Chris Marcantel and Brent D. Marcantel, both of DeQuincy, Greg Keaton of Huntington, W. Va.; 18 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Linda Montroso and husband Jimmy of South Point, Ohio and Cathy Dingess and husband Jim of Huntington, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Robertson and Betty Joy Cole; and one brother, Tommy Robertson.

A service was held on Tuesday, Apr. 18, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of DeQuincy with Rev. Gil Arthur officiating.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.

Charles Edward Frothingham, 78, a resident of Orange, Texas passed away on Thursday, Apr. 13, 2017.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
