DeQuincy Garden Club

DeQuincy Garden Club members are pictured during a work day at the Walking Path. Pictured, from left, are Jean McCaig, Lannie Thorn, Nelle Landry, Alma Brown, and Elena DeVito.

The DeQuincy Garden Club serves the community in many different ways such as planting trees in public places, awarding a student scholarship annually, selecting a yard of the month, preserving city history through art murals in the historic district, Avenue of Flags and a patriotic display of flags for special days and events.

The club has begun a new project entitled "Community Tree of Life". The mural is supported by a grant from Calcasieu Parish Police Jury as administered by the Arts Council of Southwest Louisiana. Due to the cost of the project the grant will partially fund the Community Tree of Life mural. The club is seeking to add a leaf in the name of your business, church, club or organization. Donations are accepted for historic or past businesses (entities) to be represented with a leaf.

The Garden Club members participate in the SWLA Garden Show each spring and presents enlightening programs at monthly meetings with interesting tips on gardening. To involve the general public, especially youth, an Art Walk and an Art Battle are held introducing a variety of interest to those participating. Gardeners and those interested in any of the listed community services are welcome to participate. Our meeting date is the first Monday of each month. For more information on meetings call
