Tigers go perfect in district play

Thursday evening, Apr. 18, the DeQuincy Tigers hosted the Vinton Lions in their last regular season game of the year and the Tigers had a lot to play for.

The Tigers were aiming at a undefeated district season for the first time since the early 1980s. DeQuincy was determined to win as they came out in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs those coming from Cooper Hext who had a single stroke two bases and scored on a groundout then Cullen Pharris added the other run for the Tigers with a solo home run.

In the bottom of the second, the Tigers added another run with Colby Pharis leading the inning off with a double and scored on a double by Cooper Hext.

After two complete, the Tigers were up 3-0. The Tigers gave up two runs in the top of the third inning and one in the top of the fourth to tie the score at three a piece.

In the bottom of the fifth Cooper Hext reaches on an error and score on a single by Boogie Miller and in the sixth the Tigers added an insurance run when J. P. Wilkins walked followed by a single from Gunnar Gearen and a RBI single by Colby Pharis.

That ended the scoring for the night and when the last out was made DeQuincy was the undefeated district champs.

The winning pitcher for the Tigers was Cullen Pharris and picking up the save was J. P. Wilkins. Coach Carlson stated that these guys “worked hard and deserve everything they get” he also stated “he was very proud of the guys”.

They celebrated senior night after the game recognizing four seniors: J. P. Wilkins, Colby Pharis, Boogie Miller and Cullen Pharris.

The Tigers hosted district rival Pickering Monday night Apr. 22 in the Bi District playoff game.
