Despite the best efforts of area officials including Mayor Riley Smith, members of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, School Board, and the Lake Charles Alliance, DeQuincy will not be getting a new steel plant.
Buffalo LLC, part of Steel Dynamics Enterprise Inc., had considered locating a steel plant along Hwy. 27 near DeQuincy. However the company finally chose Sinton, Texas as the site of their new plant.
Mayor Smith said that “the other city was further ahead”, but that DeQuincy is at the top of the list for future expansions by Buffalo.
