Disc golf equipment donated to elementary school

Discs and a basket for Disc Golf were donated recently to DeQuincy Elementary School. Shown above with the discs are Kasha Irwin, teacher; Jordan Smith, disc golfer; Brandy Welch, teacher, Marci Smith, mother of Jordan and former teacher at DeQuincy Elementary School, Theresa Harlow, principal; and Ruth Robertson, assistant principal.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the students and staff at DeQuincy Elementary School were presented with the basket and discs for the start of disc golf. The items were donated by local disc golf player Jordan Smith and his sponsors.

Smith began playing the sport for himself in 2015 and would like to see the DeQuincy area become more involved in the sport, as well as maybe one day soon having a course somewhere in DeQuincy. When asked why was the donation made to DeQuincy Elementary, he stated that he wanted to see the younger generation learn the sport. He and the school staff are working on a clinic for these youngsters to give the basics of the game.

Principal Theresa Harlow threw the first disc.
