The DeQuincy Tigers travelled north last Thursday night to take on the 1A Merryville Panthers in the Jamboree which kicked off the LHSAA football season.
The Tigers have been waiting for this day for several weeks and the Tigers would get on the score board early as Cooper Hext returned the opening kickoff nearly 80 yards for a touchdown as well caught another touchdown from quarterback Gunnar Gearen in the contest.
The Tigers defeated the Panthers 21-13.
The Tigers will be on the road east this Friday as they will travel to New Roads to face the Hornets of Catholic Pointe Coupee. Start time will be 7 p.m. The address for the school is 405 Louisiana St., New Roads.
