George Maddox, Sr.

George Elbert Maddox, Sr., a resident of Singer was born in DeQuincy on Mar. 6, 1949 and passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019 in Lake Charles at the age of 70. Elbert was a member of Calvary Church in Ragley. He was a great carpenter, he loved gardening and fishing. Elbert loved his family and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Maddox; children, Jeff Maddox and wife, Lindsay, Sheri Maddox, Sonya Hagler and husband, Ricky, George “Dude” Maddox, Jr. and wife, Micca, Glynn Wheeler and wife, April, Jessica Wheeler and Kasha Maddox and husband, Jeremiah Jacobs; his step sons, Terry Pitre and Brandon Pitre along with 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He is also survived by his siblings, Aubrey Maddox and wife, Frances; William Travis “Pete” Maddox, Neysa Johnson and Loretta Calderon, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Travis Maddox and Hilda Holmes Maddox; and siblings, Dorma Rose Lee, Betty Alridge and Mavis Broussard.

The family received friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Riley Smith Funeral Home in DeQuincy. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Riley Smith Funeral Home. Rev. Adrian Littlefield of Calvary Church in Ragley will officiate. Interment will follow at Rigmaiden Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
