Tigers get first win of season

The DeQuincy Tigers traveled to south Jeff Davis Parish to take on a familiar opponent and an old district rival. The Lake Arthur Tigers were a good matchup for our Tigers as the final score of 26-25 proved.

The game got off to a rough start for DeQuincy as Lake Arthur scored first on a 8 yard rush by Lake Arthur’s leading rusher. DeQuincy answered right back with a score of their on a 2 yard rush by DeQuincy leading rusher Taije Ceaser to knot the score up at 6.

DeQuincy took the lead on a 62 yard pass reception by Cooper Hext from the strong right arm of Gunner Gearen. DeQuincy was now leading 12-6 after the failed extra point.

The next two scores of the night belonged to Lake Arthur who built a 19-13 lead.

DeQuincy was not finished in the first half as Rayden Rosalis scored on a 42 yard reception before the half to give DeQuincy the slim 20-19 lead at halftime.

The second half saw the defenses come to life as both teams were only able to score once each after halftime.

DeQuincy lone score of the second half came off of a 17 yard reception by Braylon Snell. The ensuing 2 point conversion was unsuccessful. Lake Arthur scored late but the PAT was no good, preserving DeQuincys 26-25 lead and eventual win.

Taije Caesar was DeQuincys leading rusher with 103 yards on 15 carries with 1 touchdown.

Leading passer was Gunner Gearen 16 for 21 for 271 yards and 3 touchdowns and 1 interception

Leading receivers were Cooper Hext 6 receptions for 108 and 1 touchdown and Rayden Rosalis 8 receptions for 81 yards and 1 touchdown.

DeQuincy evens its record 1-1 on the year with DeQuincys home opener next Friday night, with South Beauregard making a appearance in Tiger Stadium.
