Lanora DeGelormo

Lanora “Evelyn” DeGelormo, a native and resident of Starks passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019 at her residence at the age of 73.

Evelyn was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family, her dogs, serving coffee and visiting with family and friends. She was always willing to take in strays and was a defender of the underdog.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Robert “Bobby” DeGelormo; two sons, Joseph LeDoux of Starks and Dr. Scott LeJeune and wife, Adena of Oakdale; three daughters, Joni Moreland and husband, Marcus of Yantis, Texas, Tammy Thibodeaux of Eunice, and Michelle Brown and husband, Patrick of Starks; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Hyatt Johnson of Starks; and a host of nieces; nephews; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Ruby Lee Hyatt; daughter, Tina Brown; five brothers, Virgil Hyatt, J. V. Hyatt, Horace Hyatt, Johnny Hyatt and Nathan Hyatt; four sisters, Vera Mae Johnson, Nina Simon, Jennie Lee Showalter, and Laverne Alston.

The family received friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, and from 12 noon until time for the service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3. The visitation and service was held at Deweyville United Pentecostal Church, 827 County Road 4156, Deweyville, Texas. Pastors Michael Orange and Daryl Orange officiated. Interment followed at Hyatt Cemetery in Fields.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
