DeQuincy loses first round playoff game

By Mike Suchanek

DeQuincy played host to the Capitol Lions in the first round of the LHSAA playoffs.

DeQuincy came in as the 14 seed against the 19th seeded Capitol Lions of Baton Rouge.

What appeared to be a good match up on paper played out that way coming down to a late touchdown by the visiting team before the victor was determined. After trailing for most of the game, Capitol scored a late touchdown to take the 40-35 lead and eventual win over the home standing Tigers.

Taije Ceaser was the workhorse for the Tigers on the night coming out with 221 yards on 34 carries. Taije also scored 3 touchdowns on the night.

Gunner Gearen the District leading quarterback was 7-10 for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns passing.

Cooper Hext had 9 touches for 66 yards. Rayden Rosalis had a productive night through the air catching 2 passes for 78 yards and 1 touchdown and on the ground carrying the ball 13 times for 91 yards. Braylon Snell had 1 reception for 24 yards and a touchdown.

As this was a playoff game that did not come out in DeQuincy’s favor. Nine seniors played their last game as a Tiger.

We would like to say thank you and best of luck to the following seniors, Cooper Hext, Corben Royer, Braylon Snell, Ryder Boyer, Chris Clement, Seth Shoemake, Lanty Wylie, Layton Miller, Winston Royer. Thanks to the coaching staff for a exciting year. Let’s get ‘em next year. Go Tigers!
