Thelma Gilland

Thelma Lena Gilland, 90, of DeQuincy, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 at DeQuincy Memorial Hospital. She was born to her late parents, Roy and Rosie Bunch in Sulphur on Mar. 4, 1929. She was employed by Gimball Candy Company in San Francisco, and then later worked for Paul Fisher in the furniture business. She loved traveling to different places in the United States, quilting, crocheting, sewing, and in her younger years, carpentry.

She is survived by her two daughters, Diana Barton of Tucson, Ariz., Mary Elizabeth Cyrus of Gandeeville, W. Va.; two sisters, Rose Belle Young and Elaine Droddy; grandchildren, Sharon Price, Kristine Williford, Michelle Leek, Michael Barton and Tracy Myers; along with numerous great-grandchildren.

Thelma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray Gilland; her sister, Edna Scruton; and one granddaughter, Nancy Myers.

A Celebration of Thelma’s life will be held at Bible Baptist Church of DeQuincy on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m., with Bro. Eric Aultman officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow at Hyatt Cemetery in Fields.

Services were entrusted to Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
