Jerry “Jeb” Gearen of DeQuincy was born July 3, 1940 and passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020 at the age of 79. Jeb proudly served his country during the Viet Nam era, serving in the United States Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn “Cookie” Gearen; sister, DeAnn Nix and husband, Thomas of DeQuincy; brother, Dempsey Gearen of DeQuincy along with numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Hattie Gearen; brothers, Joe Gearen, Jimmy “Rusty” Gearen, Donald “Bit” Gearen; and sisters, Bessie Anderson, Helen Rogers and Pearl Robb.
The family received friends from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at First United Pentecostal Church, 230 Smith St., DeQuincy; with a 2 p.m. funeral service that followed. Rev. Carlton “Carly” Jackson, Jr. officiated; interment followed at Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
