Melissa Williams

Melissa Mae “Missy” Williams, 82, died Friday, May 22, 2020.

Missy was born Jan. 9, 1938 in Washington to the late Cyrus and Anna Lafleur Fontenot. She was baptized at an early age at True Vine Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. She was also a former member of Evergreen Baptist Church in DeQuincy where she served in the choir at the time an album was recorded.

She attended Plaisance High School and later united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Stewart Williams, Sr. and they were married for 35 years up until the time of his death in 1999.

Missy as she was known, later became a member of Eternity Full Gospel Fellowship under the pastoral ship of Pastor, Apostle Marie Carrier, where she was the oldest member and Mother of the Church. She also served on the Hospitality Board and Prayer Ministry. Some of her former jobs were employee of the Calcasieu Parish School System, St. Patrick’s Hospital and Election Commissioner for Calcasieu Parish Clerk of Courts for many years.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Sharon Williams of DeQuincy; sisters, Joyce (Dalbert, Sr.) Leday of Port Arthur, Texas; grandchildren, Darian and A’Kailen Kay Kay Williams; sister-in-law, Alice Fontenot of Port Arthur, Texas; long time special best friends, Bertha Green and Dr. Rose Cooks; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart Williams, Sr.; parents, Cyrus and Anna Fontenot; son, Stewart Williams, Jr.; sisters, Loretta Wilson, Louanna Jack, Retha Malveaux, and Dora Jacobs; and brothers, Roosevelt and Raphael Fontenot.

A Celebration of Life graveside service was held Wednesday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at the Community Cemetery in DeQuincy under the direction of James Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Pastor, Apostle Marie Carrier officiated with Co-Pastor, Dr. Rose Cooks assisting.

Active pallbearers were Benjamin Hunter, Jr., Joseph Jack, Sr., Karl Leday, Jerome Leday, Joseph Jack, Jr., Jermaine Willis.

Honorary pallbearers were Darrin Williams, Jerry McLaurin, Dalbert Leday, Sr., Batmas Leday, Floyd Guidry, Wilton Williams, Roosevelt Fontenot, Jr., Jessie Burrell, Terry Jack, Cyrus Jacobs.

Services were entrusted to James Funeral Home, Lake Charles.
