Services held for Merryville Mayor Eaves

(Editor’s Note–David E. Eaves, Merryville mayor and Vietnam Veteran, passed away on Thursday, July 23, at the age of 70. It is with great honor and privilege that the staff of the DeQuincy News offers our condolences to his family and the town of Merryville.)

David E. Eaves, Jr., 70, of Merryville, passed from this life on Thursday, July 23, 2020.

He was a Vietnam Veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church of Merryville. He was Mayor of Merryville for the last six years. He loved growing flowers and having get-togethers with family and friends. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren. They will always remember him telling them to keep their faith and their eyes on the Lord in all things.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Chad E. Eaves and Kellie of Oakdale; daughter, Kristi L. Goodknight and Michael of Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren, Ashlyn B. Goodknight, Sarah M. Goodknight, Kinsley P. Goodnight, Ashton Rodriguez; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Eaves; parents, Edsel and Tossye L. Eaves; grandparents, Georgia and James Henry Eaves, William (Bill) and Betty Hewitt.

Drive thru visitation was held on Sunday, July 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder. A graveside service and burial was held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 27, at Cannon Cemetery in Merryville. Brother Wayne Squyres officiated.

Pallbearers were Dale Beard, Chuck Beard, Dennis “Roonie” Powell, Dale Ashworth, Larry Carroll, Reggie Noble and Pard Stark. Honorary

Pallbearers were James Eaves, Bill Edmonson, Dale Reinhardt, Mel Watson, and Mark Herford.
