Starks Historical Society excited about new book

By Vance Perkins

The Starks Historical Society is excited to announce their newest book. It is a compilation of our first three books dating back to our founding in 1993. Volumes 1,2 and 3 of Pioneers of the Past have been bound into a hardback book. The original writings have been retyped. Pictures enhanced where possible. A brief history of the Starks area has been added. Also an index has been added.

The book contains family stories submitted by members. Collections of past newspaper articles. Genealogical information and photos that have been gathered by members through the years, beginning with Mr. James Albert Johnson.

Mr. Johnson visited with many families and recorded their stories as well as copied old photographs before the advances of digital photography. He used the old copy machines and made copies of copies of copies… He and the other founding members of the Society went to great pains to compile these pictures and stories.

The books will be available on Saturday, Dec. 5, at Christmas At The Pavilion on the Starks Mayhaw Festival Grounds under the Bradford Pavilion in Starks from 6-9 p.m. They cost $30. We are a 501(3C) non-profit charitable organization. Your donation is tax deductible.
