Regina Maricelli Harper grew up in Merryville where she lived the majority of her life. She died on Nov. 29, 2020 at the age of 78.
Regina received her undergraduate and Masters degrees from McNeese State University. She was an educator teaching both regular and special education, grades K-12.
She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota, the oldest teacher’s sorority in the United States, organized in 1921 to share teaching ideas and social activities for women in the teaching profession. She served on various committees and held many state offices including State President through Kappa.
She is survived by her husband, Billie Joe Harper; daughter, Donna Rigsby (Dink Rigsby); three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration service was held Saturday, Dec. 5, at Calvary Baptist Church in Merryville. Burial followed at Cannon Cemetery.
