Kathryn Pitre

Kathryn Charpentier Pitre, a resident of DeQuincy was born Oct. 21, 1934 in Morgan City and passed away in Lake Charles on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2021 at the age of 86.

She and her husband were owners and operators of Oaks Nursery and Wingate Grocery for 32 years. She was of the Catholic faith.

She is survived by her five daughters, Dru Elayne Talbot and husband, Benjy of Lake Charles, Darlene O’Neal and husband, Robert of Beaumont, Texas, Jolyn Pitre of DeQuincy, Donna Collins and husband, Monty of Artesia, N.M., and Debra Lockett and husband, Bobby of Moss Bluff; one son, Dale Pitre and wife, Tina of DeQuincy; 17 grandchildren, Alisha Clark, Benjamin Talbot, Erin Edens, Jessica Armistead, Ashley Dickerson, Randy Coleman, Traci Coleman, Christy Richard, Amanda Richard, Cade Richard, Steven Richard, Jr., Tamara Pfister, Leah Lockett, Todd O’Neal, Kameron Burnett, Alex Burnett and Lisa Collins; 23 great-grandchildren, Audrey, John Michael, Laura Kathryn, Benjamin, Thomas, Ethan, Eli, Kaitlyn, Claire, Charlie, Catherine Elizabeth, McKenna, Hannah, Dylan, Alli, Andrew, Anderson, Hunter, Elizabeth, Bishop, Drew, Kaysee and Drew; brothers, Lloyd Charpentier of Berwick and Gayle Charpentier and wife, Marie of New Iberia.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Drew Dee Pitre; parents, Percy Charpentier and Irene Beadle Charpentier; brother, Darryl Charpentier; and sisters, Marilyn Shannon and Marsha McAnally.

The family received friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, and will receive friends from 12-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Febr. 24, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. The funeral mass will be held at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Lasalette Catholic Church, 203 S. Grand Ave., DeQuincy. Entombment will follow at Riley Smith Memorial Park in DeQuincy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of LaSalette Building Fund or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
