Myrtice Standley

Myrtice Bartrella “Bartie” Standley was born Sept. 24, 1944 in DeQuincy and passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 at the age of 77.

Bartie was born to Bertha Mae Henagan Alston and Roy Alston. Her mother passed away shortly after Bartie’s birth and she was raised by Gene and Leitha (Ma) Henagan. Bartie was a member of First Baptist Church of DeQuincy. She was a past president of the VFW Auxillary. Bartie loved people, she never met a stranger and she will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.

Bartie and Bill Standley married on May 5, 2001. She and Bill worked together, serving the Lord where their travels took them from Northern England to Houston, Texas to Trinity, Texas and DeQuincy. Wherever they were, they were working together sharing God’s word and His love.

When Bartie married Bill, she had two children, John Shoemake and wife, Julie and Mike Shoemake and wife, Beth. Upon her marriage to Bill, his children Susanne Richoux and husband, Fred, Roxanne Rosson, Lyanne Hunter and husband, Steve, Joanne Holzen and husband, David, Wayne Standley and wife, Terry became her children and they became what was known as a loud and happy family.

Bill and Bartie shared their 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

This big happy family spent many weekends and holidays together which they shared with all those that joined the fun. Through the years, Bill and Bartie prayed for each child, grandchild, great-granchild and great-great-grandchild, calling them by name in prayer each day. Family meant everything to them; it was their pride and joy.

Bartie is also survived by her sister, Judy Barrow and husband, Thomas of DeQuincy; and her sister-in-law, Genevia Alston of Glenmora.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. N. W. “Bill” Standley; father, Roy Alston; mother, Bertha Mae Henagan; grandparents, Leitha (Ma) Henagan and Edgar Henagan; sisters, Doris Lyons, Charlotte Marcantel; brothers, James Roy Alston, Joel Eugene Alston and Kenneth Ray Alston.
