Gloria Nell Materne Bertrand, 92, died Monday, Apr. 19, 2021.
She attended school in Lake Charles, graduating from Marion High School as Valedictorian in May 1948. In 1950, she married William Shirley Bertrand. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist of DeQuincy and the senior group, the “Elderberries.”
She is survived by her children, Mark Bertrand (Sally), Trudy Hancock (Ray), Donna Spence, Randy Bertrand (Joy), and Nate Bertrand (Lydia); brother, Donald Dean Materne; and sister, Margaret Weber (Bob); 18 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are, her parents, Murphy and Dorice Bushnell Materne; two brothers; two sisters; son, Timothy Arnold Bertrand, and grandson, Mack David Hancock.
Funeral services were held in the Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff Chapel on Friday, Apr. 23. Burial followed in McFatter Cemetery in DeQuincy under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
