Joe Havens

Joe Raymond Havens, 92, of Singer, passed from this life on Friday, Apr. 23, 2021.

Joe was a graduate of Singer High School; he then went on to serve his country in the United States Navy as a fireman with the rank of V6. He single-handedly built the house and homestead where he raised his large family. Joe worked as a line foreman for Gulf States Utilities Company for thirty years before retiring. He was a proud deacon at Singer Baptist Church and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rights Mason.

In his spare time, Joe enjoyed farming, ranching, hunting, making wine and all things “cowboy”. He was an avid reader. Joe loved staying close to his roots by making and sharing toys, tools, furniture and other crafts reminiscent of his early years. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Marshal Havens and Wilma of Bedford, Ky.; daughters, Janice Wilson and Bob of Baton Rouge, Jo Dumas and Terry of Denham Springs, Patty Anderson and Boyd of Dublin, Ga., Beverly Joy and Jim of Fernley, Nev., Cindy Heard and Butch of Singer, and Linda Cooley and Shannon of Singer; twenty-two grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Arlene Rider Havens; parents, Lonnie and Mayola Alston Havens; and brother, Archie Havens.

Visitation was held on Monday, Apr. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. and continued Tuesday, Apr. 27, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m. at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Pastor Todd Keel officiated the service. Pallbearers were Dallas Cooley, Denver Cooley, Tristan Cooley, Matt Havens, Clint Havens, and Bradley Treme. Burial followed at Havens Cemetery in Singer.

Services were under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
