Mary Guillory

Mary Rose Guillory, a resident of DeQuincy was born Mar. 11, 1936 and passed away Monday, Apr. 19, 2021. She was born and raised in Mansura where she graduated from High School. On Dec. 18, 1955 she married the love of her life, George Guillory and they moved to Cottonport to begin their life together. Later they moved to DeQuincy where they shared a beautiful life.

In 1971, they were blessed with the birth of their only child and the light of their lives, Suprena Guillory who married Isiah Buck III and blessed them with three grandchildren. Mary Rose loved the outdoors, tending her roses and other flowers, decorating her home, traveling and shopping.

She and her husband shared a love for horses and she would work alongside him while he was training them, going on trail rides and camping in their RV and cooking outdoors. She loved listening to music especially blues and zydeco and she was a sharp zydeco dancer! She loved watching football; her favorite team was the Saints and she also loved watching her grandson, Kaleb play football.

Mary Rose began her career in nursing at Douglas Hospital where she worked until it was closed. She then moved to DeQuincy Memorial Hospital to continue her career working in the surgery, nursery departments and even riding with the paramedics when needed. She worked for over thirty years retiring in 2005.

If you knew Mary Rose, you know she was a people person. She loved to visit with her friends and she never met a stranger. She loved her family, especially her daughter and her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Suprena Guillory Buck and husband, Isiah Buck, III; three grandchildren, Isiah Buck, IV, George Anthony Buck and Kaleb Buck; along with three great grandchildren, Aaliya Buck, George Buck, Jr. and Kaison Buck. She is also survived by her sister, who is also her twin sister, Emma Rose Dupas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Guillory; parents, Tolton and Ida Hollis; siblings, Kirby Hollis, Ethel Johnson, Sedonia Perry, Paul Hollis, Raymond Hollis and Ella Mae Augustine.

The family received friends from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 24, with a Rosary at 9:45 a.m. at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home. There was a funeral mass beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 24, at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church, 203 S Grand Ave, DeQuincy. Interment followed at Community Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
