Carolyn LaVergne

Carolyn Sue LaVergne, 78, of DeQuincy, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born to her late parents, Ralph and Frankie Mae Hatton on Nov. 19, 1942 in Athens, Texas.

She enjoyed tending to her yard, flower garden, and especially loved driving around seeing her friends. Sue was the ultimate hostess and enjoyed entertaining guests at her home. She loved baking and her favorite thing to make was her monkey bread and chocolate pie, which everyone loved. Her favorite pastime was playing Spades, which she taught her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to play. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church and was an eucharistic minister for the homebound and would even play Bingo with the nursing home residents. She also would clean the church and do anything else that was needed.

She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 59 years, Ray LaVergne; son, Kevin LaVergne (Roxanne) of DeQuincy; two daughters, Susan Huval of Austin, Texas, Monika Cooper (Shawn) of DeQuincy; two brothers, Mack Hatton of Palestine, Texas Ronnie Hatton of Brownsboro, Texas; two sisters, Rita Hatton and Katy Howard, both of Opelika, Texas; 14 grandchildren; along with five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church in DeQuincy on Friday, July 23, at 10 a.m. with Father Korey LaVergne, Father Eddie Richard, and Father Louis Tigga officiating. Visitation was held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Thursday, July 22, from 5 until 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation resumed at the funeral home on Friday from 8 a.m. until the procession to the church. Burial followed at Perkins Cemetery.

Services were entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
