Tigers lose season opener to Westlake

In a game delayed by lightning for two plus hours, DeQuincy held Westlake to 48 yards in the first half. The Tigers held the ball for the entire first quarter, had 158 yards of offense but only scored 7 points mainly because of three costly fumbles one that resulted in 7 of Westlake’s points.

Gavin Gary intercepted a Westlake pass in the final minute of the first half and on the first play on offense quarterback Reese Ashworth found Gavin Gary had beaten the Westlake secondary and hauled in a 55 yard touchdown. The Tigers went into the half time break knotted up at 7.

In the final quarter Hudson Synder scored on a 51 yard rush to score the Tigers final points of night. Snyder tacked on the two point conversion as well.

Westlake had a big 4th on quarter scoring 18 points to beat the Tigers 33-15.

Taije Ceaser had 49 yards on 19 carries and Hudson Snyder had 76 yards on 13 carries. Freshman T. J. Woods added 3 yards on 3 attempts.

Gavin Gary had 2 receptions and 64 yards while Taije Ceaser added 3 catches for 34 yards.

Quarterback Reese Ashworth finished with 98 yards on 5 of 9 passing.

Defensive stats were not available at press time but defense played well holding Westlake to the 7 points in the first half.

Next up for the Tigers a home game Friday night against the Erath Bobcats. Game time is 7 p.m.
