Clark named DHS Teacher of Year

By Dustin Royer

Judy Clark, a special education teacher and the girls basketball head coach at DeQuincy High School, has been named DeQuincy High’s 2021 Teacher of the Year.

Coach Clark is an 18-year teaching veteran, having worked at DeQuincy High for the last 13 years. In addition to being the girls basketball head coach, she assists with track and cross country.

Asked about her approach to teaching, Coach Clark replied, “I treat my students like I would want my child to be treated. Teaching is not just standing in front of a class and talking. I learn just as much from my students. Actually, my students have made me who I am today. Teaching is not a one size fits all, you have to adjust to each individual. My favorite quote is, ‘It’s not what you say, it’s what you do.’ Compassion and teaching go hand and hand. My compassion helps me connect with students that may seem difficult to others. Every day presents a new challenge, you just have to approach it with positivity.”

Coach Clark will participate in the Calcasieu Parish Teacher of the Year competition later this year.
