Tigers fall short at St. Mary’s

DeQuincy traveled Friday night to Northwestern University to take on a good private school in St. Mary’s.

St. Mary jumped out to a 14-0 lead before DeQuincy scored on a 6-yard run by Quarterback Reese Ashworth to pull the Tigers within 7 after the Kohen Cormier kick. The 2nd quarter proved to be a good one for the Tigers as Reese Ashworth scored his second touchdown of the quarter on a 3-yard carry to bring the Tigers within a point at 14-13 after the extra point miss.

The third quarter which has been a strong quarter this year for the Tigers proved to not be on this night as the home standing team scored twice to go up 28-13 entering the fourth quarter.

Taije Ceaser pulled the Tigers within 8 as he hauled in a 21 yard pass from Ashworth and the Kohen Cormier kick brought the Tigers up to 28-21. However St. Mary’s wasn’t gonna let this one slip away and scored the games final points to take the 35-21 victory.

Reese Ashworth went 7 for 14 for 139 yards through the air with one touchdown. He also had 94 yards rushing with the two touchdowns on the ground.

Hudson Snyder totaled 62 yards rushing and 8 yards receiving on the night.

Taije Ceaser had 36 yards on the ground and another 67 through the air to lead all receivers.

Gavin Gary had 33 yards and Quentin Pharris had 31 yards receiving on the night.

Quentin Pharris and Shiloh Cotlong led the defense with 5 tackles each. Gavin Gary added 4.

Hudson Snyder and Zach Chambers had 3 tackles each, while Chris Simmons had 2 take downs.

Reese Ashworth, Mikah Kerlegan, Gunner Holley and Jacob LeBlanc each tallied one tackle on the night.

Next up for the Tigers is the Oakdale Warriors. This will be the start of the District season. The next five games will all be district contest in what has traditionally been one of the toughest 2A districts in the state.

The Tigers are strapped up and ready to bring home the victory for the home fans.
