Scarecrow Contest

The DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Scarecrow Contest. Seven local businesses entered the competition. Entries had to be something created not purchased.

First place was awarded to DeQuincy News. Coming in second was The Care Center of DeQuincy, with third place going to LAWCO.

A panel of three judges from Starks were tasked with choosing the winners.

Other participants included B1 Bank, DeQuincy Memorial Hospital, Sabine Bank and Bryan and Strange/Inspired Creations.

Crystal Nix, creator of the Patriotic Scarecrow for DeQuincy News, donated the prize money back to the Chamber.

Christmas Plans

In just a few weeks Christmas will be in the air. The DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce is beginning to make plans for Christmas activities. The Christmas parade will be Saturday, Dec. 4, beginning at 11 a.m. The lineup will begin at 10 a.m. on Third St. between McNeese and Oak Sts.

The theme of the parade is “A Salute to the U.S. Troops”.

There is no fee to enter the parade.

Also, the parade is open to bicycles. Kids get your thinking caps on and enter your bike, decorating it with the theme.

The parade marshal will be the 2021 Chamber of Commerce Civic Service Award recipient Pastor and Mrs. Carlton Jackson.

This year we will have a music program following the parade on stage at the Railroad Museum. There will be the high school band, dancers, singers and that Jolly Old Man – Santa Claus.

We ask that you be expecting Snow in the Forecast!

Then at 6:30 p.m. we will have fireworks at the ball park.

So as the Chamber of Commerce makes these plans for Christmas, we hope all of you mark your calendar to come enjoy these activities.
