Christmas to be in the air soon

By Lillian Karr

In just a few weeks Christmas will be in the air. The DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce is beginning to make plans for Christmas activities. The Christmas parade will be Saturday, Dec. 4, beginning at 11 a.m. The lineup will begin at 10 a.m. on Third St. between McNeese and Oak Sts.

The theme of the parade is “A Salute to the U.S. Troops”.

There is no fee to enter the parade.

Also, the parade is open to bicycles. Kids get your thinking caps on and enter your bike, decorating it with the theme.

The parade marshal will be the 2021 Chamber of Commerce Civic Service Award recipient Pastor and Mrs. Carlton Jackson.

This year we will have a music program following the parade on stage at the Railroad Museum. There will be the high school band, dancers, singers and that Jolly Old Man – Santa Claus.

We ask that you be expecting Snow in the Forecast!

Then at 6:30 p.m. we will have fireworks at the ball park.

We are also joining this event with DeQuincy Farmer’s Market so there will be many food, craft and other booths available at the DeQuincy Railroad Museum after the parade. Please check the DeQuincy Farmer’s Market group on Facebook for information on how to register for a free booth or you may call 337-317-7339 to register. Space is limited.

The market will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and include food trucks from surrounding areas.
