Chamber meets with Interior officials

By Major Jerry Bell

At 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, Chamber President Jerry Bell, Manager Lillian Karr and Chief Casey Whitehead met with officials of Interfor. The purpose of the meeting was to invite Interfor to join the Chamber. Rebecca Coward, Interfor Human Resources, and Michael Veuleman, Finishing End Superintendent were Interfor’s representatives at the meeting.

Mrs. Karr invited Interfor to join the Chamber and discussed ways that our Chamber could work with Interfor for the betterment of our community.

Ms. Coward related that Interfor wanted to work with our community and was dedicated to helping our community as much as they can. Ms. Coward stated that Interfor was probably going to hire around 170 employees. All agreed that Interfor will be a blessing to DeQuincy and that the Chamber would assist them in any matters.

This was a great meeting between the Chamber and those present. Mrs. Karr invited the officials to attend our next Chamber meeting.

On another note, the Chamber President would like to thank everyone who participated in the Fall Fest activities held at the walking path. About a thousand persons attended and it was great for the children to be out and about.

Special thanks also to the Chamber members who attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at our new Health Clinic that was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 12 noon, at the Heritage Place Hotel.
