James Dougharty, Jr.

James Henry Dougharty Jr., 78, of DeQuincy, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021 at his residence. James was born Nov. 5, 1942 to his late parents, James Sr. and Ola Mae Dougharty in Mittie.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and giving orders, especially pointing with his left index finger. James loved to buy junk and turn around and sell it. In his younger days, he played basketball in High School and loved to watch and ride in the Rodeo. Most of all, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandson, Cody and riding around in the truck with his granddaughters, Haylee and Baylee.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carolyn Dougharty; his children, Randy Dougharty of DeQuincy, Ronnie Dougharty (Benita) of Cleveland, Tenn., Kathy Phillips (Wayne) of Longville; brother, Preston Dougharty of DeQuincy; sisters, Elaine Shoemake of DeQuincy, Drusilla Wilkerson of DeQuincy; three grandchildren, Cody Dougharty (girlfriend Brooklyn) of Baton Rouge, Haylee Phillips and Baylee Phillips of Longville, three step-grandchildren, Teshara Roberts, and Matt and Jake Phillips; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ethel Peterson; three brothers, Chester Dougharty, Sammy Dougharty, and Larry Dougharty.

A Celebration of Life was held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Tommy Magee and Rev. Sean Chisholm officiating. Visitation was at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home on Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial followed at Perkins Cemetery.

Services were entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
