Rolland McCown

Rolland James McCown, 90, of Welsh, died at Cornerstone Hospital on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022.

He was born in Welsh. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as Sergeant First Class. He returned to farming in the Welsh area where throughout the years he was very involved in community activities. He served on various boards such as the Mosquito, Drainage, Cemetery, and First United Methodist Church Boards. He was a charter member of the Thrasher’s Association, as well as being a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, the Masonic Lodge, and the Welsh men’s coffee club. He was a supporter of the Ag programs, FFA, and the Greyhound football team.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Hart McCown; daughters Cheryl Leblanc, Lynzie Boudreaux (Mark), and Rollenda McCown all of Welsh; Ellen Shaheen (Harry) of Singer; and Dr. Lezlie Cantrell (Jack) of Joplin, Mo.; stepchildren Wade Watkins (Carrie) and Paula Fox (Dominic) of Welsh; and Lisa Bird (Rick) of Double Oak, Texas; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Sadie Lee McCown; one brother Vernon; and one sister.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 12, from 5-8 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Welsh with funeral services on Thursday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m. at the church in Welsh under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings.
