Peggy Robertson

Peggy Cooper Robertson was born in DeQuincy on Apr. 26, 1942 and passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022.

Peggy was a graduate of DeQuincy High School and McNeese State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree. She received her master plus thirty. Peggy’s teaching career started in Starks and she later transferred to DeQuincy Middle School. She retired in 1994 with over thirty years of service.

Peggy married Steve W. Robertson on Apr. 15, 1965 and one child was born, Kevin W. Robertson. Peggy and Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing together on Toledo Bend Lake along with all the surrounding lakes and rivers. Peggy was Steve’s best friend and business partner throughout her life. They owned many businesses together. Peggy also was the secretary/treasurer for the Calcasieu Recreation Board of DeQuincy until the day she passed. Peggy had a strong love for God. She was a lifelong and active member of First Baptist Church of DeQuincy and a lifetime member NRA. She was a very strong woman and the backbone of her family. She had a secret love for toads and frogs and loved gardening and nurturing her beautiful flowers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Robertson; her parents, Otis and Elnora Cooper; sister, Patsy Ernst; and niece, Gina Kessler.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Robertson and wife, Bridgit; brother, Lucien Cooper; nephew, Shawn Cooper and wife, Monica; nieces, Codi Cooper, Stacy Cooper Little and husband, Thad; great niece, Dusty LeBlanc; and her great nephew, Shane Ingram.

The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 16 and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, with the funeral service beginning at 10 a.m. The visitation and funeral were held at First Baptist Church, 201 S. Pine St., DeQuincy. Rev. Gil Arthur and Rev. Jim Fisher officiated. Interment followed at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
